Church Closure for Weather Conditions

First Unitarian follows the status of Toledo Public Schools (TPS), so if they close, we close. If they have a two-hour delay, we won’t shift the time of our events, but our building might not be open during posted office hours because of staff needing the delay. There is automatic closure for Level 2 snow emergencies—on weekdays and weekends. The minister or president can make closure decisions not dependent on TPS, but we will rarely choose to be open when TPS closes because of weather. Closure decisions apply to all First Unitarian events for the day and evening at the church building. For off-campus activities, we encourage you to cancel, postpone, or move a meeting to Zoom for people’s safety related to weather conditions. 

This policy applies to events for First Unitarian Church of Toledo. Organizations and individuals not part of our congregation that use our facilities can determine their own meeting status if they have access to the building.

Official Snow Closure Policy

Weekdays: Our church will be closed for the entire weekday and evening whenever TPS schools are closed or a Level 2 Snow Emergency is declared by the Lucas County Sheriff.

Weekends: Our church will be closed for the entire Saturday or Sunday (day and evening) whenever determined by the Minister or President of the Board, or a Level 2 Snow Emergency is declared by the Lucas County Sheriff.

Emergency Communication: Church members may be notified by email via the UU-FYI electronic bulletin and Facebook, if there is sufficient time. Local TV stations (WTOL, WNWO, WTVG, WUPW), The Blade, and other local news providers may be notified of our cancellation status, in some situations.
